Lahiri sidereal, true node, IST with UTC. Mars conjunct Jupiter at 1°39′ Leo, in Magha, on 16 November 2026 at 11:53 IST (06:23 UTC). Within one degree from 13 to 19 November; within three degrees from 8 to 24 November. Mars in Leo from 12 November 2026.
The Mars Jupiter conjunction of 2026 falls on 16 November, in the first degrees of Leo, and it is the centre of the busiest week in the sidereal sky this year. This is the Vedic reading — Mars in Leo 2026, sidereal, which a Western forecast will call Mars in Virgo — and it is about more than two planets meeting. Four planets change their condition inside five days, and Ketu is standing on the exact degree where the meeting happens.
Mars is force. Jupiter is meaning. When the two sit on one degree the tradition calls it Guru-Mangala yoga — the combination of the teacher and the warrior — and reads it as force with a purpose, or purpose with force behind it, depending on which planet the chart favours. In Leo, the Sun's sign, where both are welcome, the purpose tends to be about standing: authority, the family name, the thing one is answerable for.

When is the Mars–Jupiter conjunction in 2026?
16 November 2026, 11:53 IST (06:23 UTC), at 1°39′ Leo. Both planets are in Magha — Ketu's mansion, the throne of the ancestors — and both are in its first quarter, which is the Aries navamsa (the ninth divisional chart, read for the inner life and for marriage).
A conjunction is not a moment; it is a passage. The two are within one degree of each other from the evening of 13 November to the morning of 19 November, and within three degrees from 8 to 24 November. That three-degree window is the practical span of this transit. Mars moves about half a degree a day and Jupiter about a fifth of that, so Mars does the approaching and the leaving; Jupiter sits.
The week it sits in
Here is why 16 November matters more than a Mars–Jupiter meeting usually would. All dates computed, Lahiri, IST:
- 12 November, 10:56 IST (05:26 UTC) — Jupiter conjunct Ketu at 1°18′ Leo. Jupiter has been in Leo since 31 October; Ketu has been in Leo since May 2025 and is in its last fortnight there.
- 12 November, 20:18 IST (14:48 UTC) — Mars enters Leo and Magha, leaving its debilitation in Cancer. Mars in Cancer 2026
- 13 November, 21:24 IST (15:54 UTC) — Mercury turns direct at 10°48′ Libra.
- 14 November, 05:59 IST (00:29 UTC) — Venus turns direct at 28°38′ Virgo. Venus Retrograde 2026
- 14 November, 23:20 IST (17:50 UTC) — Mars conjunct Ketu at 0°58′ Leo.
- 16 November, 11:53 IST (06:23 UTC) — Mars conjunct Jupiter at 1°39′ Leo.
- 16 November, 19:43 IST (14:13 UTC) — the Sun leaves Libra, its debilitation sign, and enters Scorpio.
- 25 November, 19:15 IST (13:45 UTC) — Ketu leaves Leo for Cancer, and Rahu leaves Aquarius for Capricorn. The nodes change signs once in eighteen months; this is that change.
Node positions throughout are the true node, which is the Institute's convention.
Read the list as one sentence. In the four days before the conjunction, Mercury and Venus both stop moving backward, Mars comes out of its worst sign, and the Sun is about to leave its own. Then Mars and Jupiter meet on the degree Ketu is holding, in Ketu's own mansion, nine days before Ketu leaves. The tradition does not have a name for a week like this. It has a name for each part, and the parts add up to a turn: what was stalled, retrograde or debilitated through October comes back to forward motion, and the first thing it meets is a Mars–Jupiter–Ketu stack in the sign of the king.
What Mars and Jupiter do together
They are natural friends. Jupiter's sign lords — Sagittarius and Pisces — are friendly to Mars; Mars's signs — Aries and Scorpio — are friendly to Jupiter. So this is not a conjunction of enemies, and the classical reading is largely good: courage that is guided, ambition that has a philosophy, action taken on behalf of something larger than oneself. The commander who is also a teacher; the surgeon who is also a healer.
Leo strengthens it. Leo is the Sun's sign, and both Mars and Jupiter are the Sun's friends. Jupiter in Leo is strong and dignified; Mars in Leo is in a friend's house and acts openly, which is exactly what it could not do in Cancer. The two together in the first degrees of the sign, in Magha, are about lineage and authority: the family business, the father's position, the role one inherits and must now hold. Magha's symbol is the throne, and the ancestors preside. A Mars–Jupiter meeting there is a call to take a seat one has been avoiding.
Then Ketu. Ketu is the planet of what was left unfinished before this life, of sudden detachment, of the cut that frees. Ketu in its own mansion is Ketu at full strength. Jupiter with Ketu the tradition reads as wisdom turned inward — insight that arrives by subtraction rather than addition. Mars with Ketu is force that comes out of nowhere and is gone: the accident, the decisive act, the burst of energy that surprises the person who has it. All three on one degree, nine days before Ketu changes sign, reads as an ending inside a beginning. Something in the area of life where Leo falls for you is being handed over, cut off, or completed — and the handing over is what makes room for what Mars and Jupiter are starting.
Across the sky from all of it, at 1° Aquarius, is Rahu. Every planet in the stack is opposed by Rahu, and Rahu's opposition inflates: the ambition looks bigger than it is, the opportunity comes from an unexpected direction, and the crowd — Aquarius, Rahu's sign — has an opinion about what you do with your throne.
Mars in Leo 2026: how long it lasts
This conjunction opens a long Mars in Leo. The dates, computed:
- 12 November 2026 — Mars enters Leo and Magha (20:18 IST).
- 19 December — Mars into Purva Phalguni, Venus's mansion (10:20 IST).
- 10 January 2027 — Mars stations retrograde at 16°11′ Leo (18:24 IST; 12:54 UTC).
- 31 January — retrograde Mars back into Magha.
- 10 March — retrograde Mars back into Cancer (00:13 IST).
- 1 April — Mars stations direct at 26°41′ Cancer.
- 26 April — Mars enters Leo for the second time.
- 5 July 2027 — Mars leaves Leo for Virgo.
So Mars is in Leo from 12 November to 10 March, and again from 26 April to 5 July — nearly six months of the eight between now and next July, with a retrograde in the middle. Whatever this conjunction starts in your Leo house will be revisited when Mars turns back in January and finished when Mars returns in April. This forecast covers the conjunction and the first Magha passage; the Mars retrograde of 2027 is its own piece.
Where it lands — all twelve lagnas
Leo is a different house for every chart. Find your lagna (the rising sign), then read the same line for your Moon sign, because the Moon shows how the transit feels and the lagna what it does. That double read is how every Astro River forecast is written.
| Lagna | Leo is your | The meeting tends toward |
|---|---|---|
| Aries | 5th | Children, romance, intelligence, speculation. Mars is your lagna lord and Jupiter your ninth lord meeting in your fifth — the classical fortune placement. A child's success, a creative launch, a love that has purpose. Keep the money out of the speculation; Ketu takes as fast as Rahu gives. |
| Taurus | 4th | Home, mother, property, vehicles. Energy and expansion under the roof; a move, a build, a purchase. Ketu on the fourth cuts a tie to the old house or the old town. |
| Gemini | 3rd | Courage, siblings, communication, short journeys. Jupiter is your seventh and tenth lord; Mars your sixth and eleventh. Effort that pays and a sibling matter that resolves, with a Ketu-style ending in the middle. |
| Cancer | 2nd | Money, family, speech. Jupiter, your ninth lord, and Mars, your tenth lord, in the wealth house: income from work and standing. Say less than you know; Mars in the second makes the tongue sharp. |
| Leo | 1st | The self. Mars, your ninth lord, and Jupiter, your fifth lord, on your lagna — the two trine lords together in the first house. The strongest placement in the zodiac for this transit. Take the seat. Ketu on the lagna asks what you are willing to give up to hold it. |
| Virgo | 12th | Expense, sleep, distance, retreat, what leaves. Jupiter, your fourth and seventh lord, and Mars, your third and eighth lord, in the twelfth: money out, and a partnership or a home matter reviewed in private. Ketu here favours the retreat. |
| Libra | 11th | Gains, friends, elder siblings, the network. Jupiter is your third and sixth lord, Mars your second and seventh — income through a partner or a rival turned ally. A good placement; Jupiter in the eleventh is the classical gain. |
| Scorpio | 10th | Career, authority, the boss. Mars is your lagna lord and Jupiter your second and fifth lord, together on your tenth: a promotion, a public role, a title. Ketu on the tenth means the old title ends first. |
| Sagittarius | 9th | Father, teacher, faith, long journeys. Jupiter, your lagna lord, in your ninth with Mars, your fifth and twelfth lord — dharma with force behind it. A teacher found, a pilgrimage, a father's matter settled. |
| Capricorn | 8th | The hidden, others' money, inheritance, the body's vulnerabilities. Mars is your fourth and eleventh lord, Jupiter your third and twelfth. The placement to handle with care: read every clause, and do not schedule surgery that can wait for the conjunction to pass. Ketu in the eighth is deep and can be sudden. |
| Aquarius | 7th | Partner, marriage, contracts, the public. Mars, your third and tenth lord, and Jupiter, your second and eleventh lord, on your seventh — with Rahu on your lagna opposite. A partnership with ambition in it; a contract with a public face. Watch for the partner who wants the throne. |
| Pisces | 6th | Service, illness, debt, rivals. Jupiter is your lagna lord and Mars your second and ninth lord; in the sixth they defeat rivals and clear debts at the cost of heat. Guard the body; the rest is useful work. |
The trine placements — Leo, Aries and Sagittarius, with the meeting on their first, fifth and ninth — get the most from this transit. Capricorn, Virgo and Pisces, with the eighth, twelfth and sixth, get the least and must work for it. Scorpio and Libra, on the tenth and eleventh, are the working placements.
This conjunction, in your chart. The table above is by lagna alone. A personal transit report reads Mars, Jupiter and Ketu together against your full chart — the house from lagna and Moon, your natal Mars and Jupiter and whether they are friends to your lagna, your Ketu's place, the dasha running, and your Ashtakavarga count for Leo — and tells you what is ending and what is beginning in the week of 12–16 November, and what the Mars retrograde of January will bring back.
The classical rules behind the reading
Guru-Mangala yoga. Jupiter and Mars in one sign form the yoga the tradition names for the teacher and the warrior. The classical results are courage under counsel, gain through effort that is principled, and authority — with the caution that the two together can also produce the zealot, when Jupiter's conviction is given Mars's methods. Which of the two it is depends on the stronger planet by dignity and by lordship for the lagna.
Conjunction by degree, not by sign. Two planets in one sign are together; two planets on one degree are joined. The tradition weighs the closeness, and most lines use an orb — a working distance — of a few degrees for a transit. The dates above use three degrees for the outer edge and one degree for the heart of it.
Ketu in its own mansion. Magha's lord is Ketu. A planet in Magha is under Ketu's hand whether or not Ketu is present; with Ketu present as well, the hand is doubled. This is why the Ketu reading is not a footnote here.
→ Paper C, Nakshatras · Magha nakshatra
Rahu's opposition. Rahu aspects the fifth, seventh and ninth from itself, as Jupiter does. Rahu at 1° Aquarius throws its seventh aspect on 1° Leo — on all three. The tradition reads Rahu's aspect as magnifying and distorting; the ambition it touches grows, and so does the risk of misjudging its size.
Transit from the Moon. Classically Mars gives good results transiting the third, sixth and eleventh from the Moon; Jupiter the second, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh. Where Leo is the eleventh from your Moon, both are well placed at once — the best Moon-sign position for this transit. Where Leo is the eighth or twelfth from your Moon, neither is, and the week asks for care.
The Ashtakavarga check
Two people with Leo on the same house will not have the same November. Look at your Sarvashtakavarga count for Leo. At twenty-eight or above the conjunction delivers — the seat is taken, the launch lands. Under twenty-five, Mars and Jupiter promise and Ketu collects, and the useful reading is to let what ends end and not to force what begins. Then look at Jupiter's own table for Leo: five or more of its own bindus there and Jupiter can carry Mars; two or fewer and Mars carries Jupiter, which is the version with heat in it.
One do, one don't
Do: use the week of 13 to 19 November, when the two are within a degree, to take on the responsibility you have been offered and have not answered — the role, the family matter, the thing that has your name on it. Mars and Jupiter in Magha reward the person who sits down in the chair. If the chair is in your tenth or your first, this is the month.
Don't: start a fight to prove the point. Mars–Jupiter can produce the righteous quarrel — the argument you are sure you are right about, conducted with more force than the question needs — and Ketu makes it end abruptly and badly. Rahu opposite makes the audience larger than you think. If the matter is a matter of principle, write it down and wait until Mars is past Jupiter, after 19 November.
Questions we are asked
When is the Mars–Jupiter conjunction in 2026? 16 November 2026, at 11:53 IST (06:23 UTC), at 1°39′ Leo, sidereal. The two are within a degree of each other from 13 to 19 November.
Is the Mars–Jupiter conjunction good or bad? Mostly good, as conjunctions go: two friends in a friend's sign. It is demanding where Leo falls in your sixth, eighth or twelfth, and it is complicated for everyone by Ketu on the same degree. "Good" in this transit means something is completed so that something can begin.
What does Mars conjunct Jupiter in Leo mean for me? Find Leo from your lagna and from your Moon in the table above. Then find your Sarvashtakavarga count for Leo. Those three things — house from lagna, house from Moon, bindu count — tell you most of it. The dasha tells you the rest.
What does a Mars–Jupiter conjunction mean in a birth chart? A different reading from the transit. Natal Guru-Mangala yoga is a lifelong combination — courage with counsel, or conviction with force — and it is read by the house, the sign, and which of the two is stronger for the lagna. It is asked about often for a woman's chart, where the tradition reads Jupiter as the significator of the husband and Mars with it as a partner with drive and temper. That is a chart question, not a transit one.
How long is Mars in Leo in 2026? From 12 November 2026 to 10 March 2027, and again from 26 April to 5 July 2027, with a retrograde station on 10 January 2027 at 16°11′ Leo.
Why does the week of 12–16 November matter? Because Mercury, Venus, Mars and the Sun all improve their condition inside it, and the first thing the forward-moving sky meets is Mars, Jupiter and Ketu on one degree in Magha — with Ketu leaving Leo nine days later. The stalled October — Venus retrograde, Mars debilitated, the Sun in Libra — ends here.
This reading is for guidance and education. It is not medical, legal or financial advice, and it does not replace a reading of your own chart.
If Leo holds your lagna, your Moon, or your tenth house, the week of 12 to 16 November is one to read with the whole chart in hand — and with Ketu's place in your birth chart beside it. A consultation can place all three for you.
